phoenician boats history

The Phoenicians were very good sailors. They started with little canoes were there was only space for 1-8 passengers. With this boats they only did traveling near the coast thru the mediterranean sea.
As the phoenicians liked to fight and explore they needed more powerful and big sheeps so they invented the "crows nest" wich consisted on a huge wooden base with 20 holes were the ores were placed.Inside the boat there were 20 benches on each side were the slaves were forced to row to the beat of the drum. With this boats they started to do trips from one side to the other of the mediterranean sea. This boats were very good but they wanted more, more power, more strength and faster ships. As the crows nest was so perfect they decided to continue with this design with only one exception, they added a sale which helped them to go out of the Mediterranean sea and explore all the 7 seas.
after this, the boats were divided in two kind and each one had its own propose. The first type was called a "tub" in modern days called a "square sale" it was used by merchants to export and import objects . The other kind was called a "war galley" and it was used by warriors and inside it, there was capacity for more than one whole troop.
